I was listening to an interview with Jeremy Knowpow, a product designer and mechanical engineer. He was talking about a new walker called the Motivo Tour. Jeremy said that “walkers have not been re-imagined since the 1940’s when the walker was created by the US military for rehabbing injured soldiers.” That spurned a two-year innovation process where he spoke to doctors, nurses, rehab operators, physical therapists, caregivers, senior living communities and seniors who were using a mobility product. He asked all of them the same question, What would you ideally like to have in a new mobility product? He got a lot of answers. His research lead to the creation of a proprietary product that features a sleek colorful design that people could feel good about using. It incorporates adjustable handlebars that encourage an upright stance to prevent from hunching over, functionality features like a flip out comfortable seat, built in storage for a purse oxygen tank or everyday essentials, a built-in tray and the ability to easily store by folding tightly. I could not wait to get home and google Motivo Tour right away.
